INT.RYAN’S HOUSE- DREAM
A 15 year old Ryan East, innocent looking little boy, speaks
with his older brother Collin East. Ryan is sitting down in
his bed as his brother gets ready to departure New LA.
                    COLLIN EAST
You see Ryan (he walks impatiently
          around the room, staring everywhere
but at Ryan) everything in this
world happens for a reason. Take
the Great Heating of the world for
          example. It was humanity’s fault
          for not respecting mother nature.
Now we have beasts to deal with,
and we can never leave New LA.
Collin takes a knee in front of Ryan as he pats one of his
younger brother’s knees and sighs.
                    COLLIN EAST
You are probably still too young to
understand this, but in here in New
LA everyone lives by what the city
          government tells them.
Collin stands up again and heads to a small window in the
room, stands alone and stares at nothingness.
                    COLLIN EAST
          Before the Great Heating, people
used to live free to do whatever
they wanted too. It was possible to
          travel to different places, some
very far away from New LA, by land,
air and even by sea. Now, whatever
the government or the head of
security says, we have to do or not
          do.
                    RYAN EAST O.S
          I don’t understand what you’re
saying. Mom and dad are happy. You
are about to become part of the
Police Force. I want to become part
of the police force when I am
          you’re age!
                    COLLIN EAST
          Remember this brother. It’s better
to die free and standing, than to
live an entire life forced to kneel
          down.
Suddenly the camera changes and we see as Collin attempts to
go through the protective fence of New LA along with other
cadets.
We now see a holographic projection of the news being
broadcasted all over New LA. Pictures of different cadets
are projected, as a voice says that these are all rebellious
cadets who broke the rules of New LA, attempted to cross the
protective fence, and were all shot down by an effective
police response team.
                    NEWS REPORTER O.S
          The reasons why these cadets
decided to go over the fence are
          still unknown. We remind all
inhabitants of New LA that rules
          and laws are expressed clearly
everyday to avoid these type of
          tragic circumstances.
The photos of the cadets who attempted to cross the fence
are flashed one by one. As Collin’s photo appears, Ryan
wakes up abruptly from his dream.
INT. MORNING- DAY
Ryan wakes from his dream sweating. In his face you can see
he looks tired. He gets out of bed and enters the bathroom.
He then exits the bathroom prepared for the day, wearing his
cadet uniform as he makes his way down the stairs of their
big mansion and joins the rest of his family for breakfast,
still looking restless.
His father Gregory, a stern serious looking man (52), speaks
on the phone as he leaves the house to go to work.
His mother, Ana (46) she has a fit body for her age, and
long dark hair; and younger sister Alexa (15), looks very
similar to her mother when she was her age, sit around a
kitchen island as they watch a holographic image of the news
and eat their breakfast.
                    ANA
Good morning son. (She looks at him
and notices the tiredness in his
face) Did you have that dream
          again?
                    RYAN EAST
Yes. Why are you always watching
the news mother? And why do you let
Alexa see the news? She is way too
young to see reports of how humans
kill beasts that were once animals.
                    ALEXA
(As she eats what looks to be
               like organic, non sweetend
               cereal)
I am old enough to see this. In
school, we are learning how beasts
are bad, and will kill you as soon
as they have the chance. Do you
learn in training how to kill
          beasts Ry?
Ryan ignores his sister’s question, but not in a rude way.
He stares at her and pats her in the head.
                    RYAN EAST
I wish I could explain to you what
beasts used to be before the Great
          Heating of earth.
                    ANA
(As she hands Ryan a plate of
the same cereal and a big
               glass of orange juice which
               she serves directly from the
               fridge as though it were
               water)
I wish you would stop saying stuff
like that. That type of thinking is
          what drove your brother to
insanity. It’s what drove him to
defy the rules and laws of our
society. That is why he was
categorized as a menace to the well
being of New LA and our people.
                    RYAN EAST
Our people? You people, you all
live stupefied by what the news is
saying! Live you’re life the way
the government wants you to! And do
whatever that old hag of Mitch
          Louis says!
                    ANA
               (As she clears Alexa’s plate,
and puts it into a futuristic
               looking dishwasher)
That old hag is your leading
          officer. Head of all police,
security and cadets in New LA, and
          therefore your boss. Plus, you’re
father and I had to beg him to let
you enter cadet training after what
          your brother did.
                    RYAN EAST
          Whatever...
                    ANA
               (As Ryan leaves the house)
Dont forget tomorrow night we are
invited to a dinner party at
          Mitch’s house.
Camera fades to black as it flies over the holographic
report of the news one more time.
EXT. CADET TRAINING FACILITY- DAY
Ryan and the rest of the cadets jog around a field at a high
pace as a ranking officer watches them and times them from a
sideline. As he screams for his cadets to keep up the pace,
Mitch Louis (59) a serious faced, not very tall, and semi
fat man appears and joins the officer.
                    MITCH LOUIS
          How are they doing?
                    OFFICER
All good sir. They are doing good
time, and none show signs of
          exhaustion.
                    MITCH LOUIS
Good! How is Collin’s East brother
doing?
                    OFFICER
          Exceptional as always sir. He
          displays the same talents his
          brother did before him.
                    MITCH LOUIS
Let’s hope that is the ONLY talent
he displays.
                    OFFICER
I understand. It would be a dull
day if we had to shoot him down
          like you did to Collin.
A smirk of impatience and uneasyness appears on Mitch’s
face. He walks away from the officer and calls for Ryan to
approach him.
Ryan looks at his girlfriend Kim Rhymes, she looks backs
with a look that says: just go. He jogs over to Mitch, and
greets him with formal salute.
                    MITCH LOUIS
At ease. How is your training going
cadet.
                    RYAN EAST
               (With a bit of irony)
Same as always sir. Couldn't be
          better.
                    MITCH LOUIS
               (With a mischievous smirk)
I see. I wanted to talk to you...
                    RYAN EAST
               (Interrupting)
Again...
                    MITCH LOUIS
Yes cadet again. I wanted to talk
to you because I wanted to tell you
that there is another date coming
up for you to attempt to pass the
          psychological test, and once and
for all join my police force.
                    RYAN EAST
Thank you sir. I appreciate your
          concern as always.
                    MITCH LOUIS
Are you still drinking often? You
know we do not approve of that in
New LA, much less here in the
police force. Maybe that is what is
          preventing you from passing the
          psychological test.
                    RYAN EAST
I will keep it mind sir.
                    MITCH LOUIS
Now get back to training. And
please, let your parents know I
          said hi.
Mitch Louis always ended their conversations by saying that.
Ryan had never understood what it meant. His parents always
seemed too normal when he said it to them.
Mitch Louis leaves training. Just when Ryan is about to join
the rest of the cadets back for the jog, a young kid appears
from a bleacher.
                    BOY
          Are you Collin’s East brother?
Ryan does not answer.
                    BOY
I know you are. I have seen the
footage from that day when him and
other cadets attempted to cross the
          fence.
Now the boy had captured Ryan’s attention.
                    RYAN EAST
Who are you kid? What do you want?
                    BOY
          Did you’re brother ever say
something before he left? Did he
          tell you why he left?
Ryan looks extremely confused.
                    KIM RHYMES O.S
               (Interrupting Ryan’s
               conversation with the boy)
          RYAN!!
Kim (20) was a brown colored girl with blue eyes. Slim with
a perfect body, a beatiful smile and long black hair.
The boy leaves as he sees Kim approaching.
                    KIM RHYMES
What’s going on Ry? Who were you
talking to? You look a little
          disoriented, are you okay?
                    RYAN EAST
Yes, it’s nothing. Just a little
          tired I guess.
                    KIM RHYMES
Come! Let’s finish what we have
left to jog. I want to go to the
Hollywood sign today. If we finish
training early enough, we will be
able to see the sunset through the
          fence.
Ryan and Kim join the rest of the cadets for the rest of
training.
EXT. HOLLYWOOD SIGN - DUSK
Ryan and Kim sit on what reamins of the Hollywood sign. Kim
has her head on Ryan’s lap. Yellow rays of sunlight
penetrate through the fence just enough to light up where
they are sitting.
                    KIM RHYMES
What did Mitch want this time?
                    RYAN EAST
               (Letting out a small laugh)
Same as always. He calls me over
and always says its for some other
reason, but I know he just like to
keep me close. Everyone seems to be
scared to death I am going to turn
          out just like Collin.
                    KIM RHYMES
You have to understand Ry. You’re
older brother made a selfish
decision. I dont know if he was
insane or if he really believed he
would be able to survive on the
other side of the fence, but he
still went against all rules of New
LA. He put the entire society in
danger. The rules exist for a
reason, our safety, the safety of
New LA. When he made his decision I
dont think he was thinking of
anyone but himself. Even worse, he
put you, your parents and Alexa in
          imminent danger.
Ryan was used to these seminars, it’s something he really
liked from Kim. You could see her sincere concern in her
eyes whenever she spoke about the subject.
                    RYAN EAST
I know, I guess your right as always.
As he finishes his last sentence, Ryan kisses Kim, and they
flirt momentarily.
                    KIM RHYMES
By the way. Who was that little boy
who was talking to you after Louis
          left?
                    RYAN EAST
          Honestly, I don't know.
                    KIM RHYMES
          What did he tell you?
Even though Ryan trusted Kim more than anyone he knew this
was something better kept to himself.
                    RYAN EAST
Nothing. He was just another young
          kid making remarks about my
          brother.
                    RYAN EAST
Are you going to the dinner party
          at Mitch’s tomorrow?
                    KIM RHYMES
Are you serious? You know he has
never invited my family to any of
his dinner parties. He doesnt like
me or my family because we are not
as wealthy as you or him. The only
reason he let me enter cadet
training is because he knows how
talented I am with a weapon.
